  • I HATE IE6

As you may or may not know, I dabble in web design.  And as I have come to learn, you can have a site finished and working fine, only to find out that it doesn’t work in Microsoft IE6.  Why is this.  From what I understand it’s because IE6 (Microsoft Internet Explorer 6) does not support the latest web standards and so as a web developer, once a site is created you often have to go back and adjust things so that it’ll work. Obviously the easiest way around this is to design with modern standards and forget about IE6, but there are some people that just won’t get rid of that little app.

If you are using IE6 I suggest you change browsers there are a number of them.  I have listed and posted links to a few of them below. (Heck you could even just upgrade to IE7).

    1. Firefox- Firefox has security, speed and new features that will change the way you use the Web. Don’t settle for anything less.

    2. Safari- Experience the web, Apple style, with Safari: the fastest, easiest-to-use web browser in the world. With its simple, elegant interface, Safari gets out of your way and lets you enjoy the web faster than any browser.

    3. Opera- Get a faster and more powerful Web browser and make the most of your time online.

    4. Chrome- Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier.

    5. Flock- Flock is a free, easy-to-use web browser built on fast and secure Mozilla technologies. Share photos, get your news, blog freely, and search your world with Flock. Flock makes it easier than ever for you to connect with your friends.

    Mercedes-SL500-11-99-license-plate-frame.jpg

If you live in California you have probably seen one of these. No, not the Mercedes SL500, but the license plate frame which says 11-99 Foundation. The 11-99 foundation is a charitable organization which supports familes of California Highway Patrol employees. Primarily they help out in cases of sickness or death. This is a very good thing.

But the puzzling thing is the way they go about it. The license plate frame is an example. For a $1800 donation to the organization you get a license plate frame, a certificate and a wallet with a special 11-99 badge in it. The wallet has a place for your ID just opposite the badge. The perfect thing to hand to an officer who has just pulled you over.

Now, perhaps they don’t intend to create the impression that this sort of prominent identification with the program is helpful in avoiding prosecution by the Highway Patrol, but the general public certainly thinks it is. For example:

“Well for those who don’t believe in the CHP11-99 Foundation, this story will make you change your minds. In California, time around 3pm. …I looked to my left for on coming traffic and didn’t see anyone, so I pushed it from around 55mp to 100 in no time. All a sudden I see a front bumper next to my side door? I was in shock, then looked quickly and it was a black bumper with steel guards. Guess what it was a COP… He told me I was clocked at 102 ! I told him some Mustang was on my *** on 85 and I wanted to get him off my bumper. I gave him my CHP-1199 badge and membership card….He comes back and tells me he doesn’t know what to do, 1. give me a ticket or 2. give me a warning. Well he gives me a warning and says goodbye”

So, when I see something like this on a fast car – and they are always on fast cars… it tells me something about the driver. Sometimes it means that they really care. But you can care in private right? Care without the badge and license plate frame? So my mind rejects that approach and assumes the worst. I really think they need a tagline. Something like:

    • “My convenience is more important than your safety”
    • “Nation of laws? That’s for losers”
    • “Money changes everything”
    • “Buy a cop today”

Really, I don’t know what else to think. Would tax cheats wear their fraudulent returns so proudly?

You may be familiar with some of the old war propaganda aim at women. These are a couple of familiar images from World War II.

The ones you might not be so familiar with are the ones aimed at women. Asking women to watch who they are talking to and what they are talking about. I’m not sure why they are targeting women there were many men that were at home and could have talked as well.

There are many more of these WWII war posters here. Here’s one last poster for you.

There is a gang of kids that own our complex. They’re cute, and they’re mine. They rule this complex with their “Ariel” scooters and a trike. And they call themselves the “Groovy Girls!”

For the most part they are a nice gang. But some times they can be mean.

    But their not always mean.

Here’s the ears of their operation. (There’s a new bird in the complex.)

    A gang meeting.

Riding out to find that new bird.

The ‘hood is safe for another day. Let’s get a group picture.

Their moto: GROOVY GIRLS NEVER GIVE UP!!!

I have been meaning to do this for some time now and have finally done it.  I got rid of Facebook today. Well okay I deactivted my account.  I guess it’s not gone, but I’m not going to use it anymore.  I never really used it anyway.

I am not sure what all the appeal of Facebook is.  I signed up because someone invited me and have barely used it.  All it seems it is good for is to message people. But I have an email address and a phone number.

    The Messaging

The last thing I need to do is to get a message that tells me I have a message from someone. Then I have to sign in to send that person a reply.  But if you would just email me I could reply right from the email that you sent me and save myself a step.  I am a busy guy and time is money.

    The Alerts

I also can’t stand all the emails about someone commented on a picture that you commented on. Or that someone has changed their status or is in a relationship or added a new application or went to the bathroom and did #2. I don’t need to know that much information.

Really Facebook is great if you want to share some important info with the entire world, but I don’t! I like my close friends to know what’s going on in my life. Not to mention who these guys (Facebook) are selling your information to (don’t think it’s not happening they have to keep it free somehow).

    Back To Blogging

Anyway I have gone black to blogging, that works for me.  I am in control of my information and can share as much or as little as I want.  So I am going to try to write a new blog everyday for the next little while or until I can’t think of anything to write, but with all the stuff on the “interweb” I’m sure I could last for a while. So if you want to keep up with all my new posts click subscribe on the top left and come along for the ride.

    And for your viewing pleasure:

  • A CHURCH THAT JESUS WOULD ATTEND!

    AUTHOR: // CATEGORY: general

I was driving around in the loader the yesterday and was thinking about the church in North America. I was wondering if Jesus was alive if he would attend the church that I attend. I then that about what a church that Jesus would attend would look like. Both of those thoughts were just that, thoughts. But when I go home from work there was a message for me to call my mom, who has been reading the book of Amos and read me a few verses. I was amazed at the relevance of the verses that she read to my thoughts earlier in the day. Here are the verses from Amos 5:21-27 (from the Message):

“I can’t stand your religious meetings.
I’m fed up with your conferences and conventions.
I want nothing to do with your religious projects,
    your pretentious slogans and goals.
I’m sick of your fund-raising schemes,
your public relations and image making.
I’ve had all I can take of your noisy ego-music.
When was the last time you sang to me?
Do you know what I want?
    I want justice–oceans of it.
    I want fairness–rivers of it
    .
    That’s what I want. That’s all I want.

“Didn’t you, dear family of Israel, worship me faithfully for forty years in the wilderness, bringing the sacrifices and offerings I commanded?
How is it you’ve stooped to dragging gimcrack statues of your so-called rulers around, hauling the cheap images of all your star-gods here and there?
Since you like them so much, you can take them with you when I drive you into exile beyond Damascus.” GOD’S Message, God-of-the-Angel-Armies.

As I read these verses, I couldn’t get over how church today has not changed in thousands of years. I have said to Simone many times that I wish we would sing songs that are actual worship songs. Next time your in church listen and think about the words that you are singing, how many of the songs are about “ME?”

I think this is self explanatory. What kind of church would Jesus attend? A church where he is the center of everything, and where people are there to meet with Him. It has nothing to do with a building, the media department, the worship team or choir or any of our many programs. It doesn’t have to be polished, perfect, or programmed.

Jesus wants to be part of a church where people worship, “in spirit and in truth!” Where he is the center, where people are singing because there hearts are full of love and thanksgiving for what He has done for them. Where giving is from the heart and not coerced, or to buy the most comfy pews. Where social justice is key, where the community is constantly at the forefront.
