So due to the pain of my accident, I was given large amounts of morphine. To be honest at the scene of the accident I received a lot of morphine and it really didn’t help all that much, it did take some of the pain, but not as much as I though it would.
Anyway, as you may or may not know, Morphine is an opiate, which means it’s derived from Opium. So after being on a Morphine drip I.V. in the hospital for a week, there was a little bit of withdrawal symptoms. One of those symptoms are hallucinations, and man did I have my share. I thought I would tell you about one of them.
The most recurring one was of a little monkey. Now that may sound like nothing, but this cute little monkey was perched atop the shelf across from my bed and was constantly trying to kill me. What made this hallucination so interesting was the fact that he was trying to kill me by throwing little carrot throwing stars at me. I would constantly wake up and look around the room to see if I was dreaming or what? Over the course of the next couple of days I had many more other hallucinations, but it was the money that kept showing up. It didn’t matter what I was doing or who was visiting me, that monkey kept trying to get me. Awake or asleep, he was there.
He never did though.

that was actually addy with her gerber sweet potatoe puffs. she’s a paid assassin. i don’t know how she got up on the shelf though. she’s so little.
don’t ask who paid her. hmmmmmmm…
Definitely like the look of this one better!
I had cardiac surgery at the end of April. I had hallucinations as well. Mine were a little easier to deal with. The same 4 songs kept playing very low for three days. I also saw random letters appearing on the walls, bed, my arms well really just about everything. Last one was the blizzard of inflated gold lame ballons in the shape of letters filling the street outside my hospital room window. In retrospect it was kind of cool but it would have been nice if the staff had told me what to expect. The other kind of depressing thing was they took me off all the pain meds so I was pretty straight when the pulled out the chest drainage tubes. Now that was an experience
Cheers all.
it is wery true that morphine gives us hallucinacion that is one of the big number of simptoms that we have when we use morphin, i had a patient that had an car accident and had hallucinacions, like how she told, two old womans stayed near her bed in hospital and talk something that she couldent understand but maked her a lot a fraid, it is wery true in medicien that this side effects of morphine are dangerous, and tell us that it is given in high doses. But what kind of angalgetics we can give if we whant to replace the morphine this is a big question on medicine beacuse we don’t know wat kind of analgetic can be such as powerfull as morphine,,,

My husband has been in the hospital for a week now after having colon surgery. Initially he had 4mg of Morphine every 2 hours as needed, then as he turned a little “loopy” they lowered it to 2mg. After about day 3 or 4 he started having a variety of halucinations. Seems few of them were repeated for very long. They often caused him to mumble in his sleep as though he is talking to someone; he motions to people, trys to pick thigs up, and all sort of things that we do when we’re awake. As soon as he wakes he realizes it was just a dream. He’ll be here most of a second week, so I’m worried about withdrawl and ongoing issues with haluncinations.
Hi Susan
I hope all is now well with your husband. My husband has just had colon surgery 3 days ago. He is haluncinating and a little confused. He is saying some very strange things which is very un-nerving as he doesn’t seem to realise and gets annoyed if I can’t answer him. How long did the effects last with your husbad? I know 3 days is very soon, but it is difficult to ask how he is feeling and when OI mentioned it to the nurse she said she hadn’t noticed, which is also a bit of a worry.
Any help would be grately received.
Kind regards
I met a friend today whose dad is seriously ill, possibly terminally. He has hallucinated, and is totally convinced that he has already died, had his funeral and been cremated…..and somehow `returned’. He has even described the inside of the funeral parlour in specific detail and the inside of the oven. How amazing/horrific is that?????
